Where's the first place that comes to your mind when Japanese buffet is mentioned? Saisaki? Shogun? Jogoya? These are all familiar names for all Jp food lovers.
I'm not only a food lover, I'm a shameless self-proclaimed food critic in my own rights. I always frequent blogs, but most of the blogs that review food that's seemingly 'so delicious', yet, when I've had first-hand experience on, don't seem quite as promising as what they should be.
So they cook it nicer for reviewers izzit? Or the reviewers have such lowly taste buds that they cant differentiate what's fresh and what's not by badly covered 'approved' chemical such as soda powder? Or maybe it's because the reviewers GET PAID for their blog posts, so not nice also must die die say nice right? Who will claim (openly) that their sponsors suck anyway? A little bit of camwhoring showing their 'happy' face will make people wanna go ledi la, rite?
I've been told repeatedly, Saisaki is the best lah, their variety of food and their price is just so blah*insertgoodcomments*blah. Then what, Shogun's food is so blah*insertgoodcomments*blah. Then Jogoya is blah*insertgoodcomments*blah.
This is what I think about the 2 famous Jp buffet chains (Shogun is under the same mother company as Saisaki), OVERRATED.
THIS IS PURELY PERSONAL OPINION.
Price
Saisaki is cheaper and more affordable. It's around (tax included) RM60 for dinner while Jogoya is a whopping RM100!
Variety
Jogoya win hands down. The place is already like 3 times bigger than Saisaki wtfish. But I have to add that, Jogoya's variety of sashimi suck so much that even Sushi King can do better than that.
Please lor, where got Japanese food don't have ebiko (prawn eggs) one? The ones I found are poor portion given like ebiko very expensive wtfish. No tako (octopus), no tamago (jp-style ommelette, not sashimi, but still Jp-ish k?), no Ikura (salmon eggs), no hotate (fresh scallop, and this is their biggest sin and I hate them), no-a-lot-of-sashimi-I-love. - and Saisaki have all those mentioned, plus a lot I forgotten their names. :(
Don't talk to me about Chinese food in those restaurants ok? Cause I'm there for JAPANESE food and NOT CHINESE food, and if I wan Chi food I know where to get them and definitely not in there! So no matter how nice those chinese food, and what sort of crazy variety they have in there, I never bother to try them, not now, not ever kthxnext.
Food
Jogoya's food is so so so so fresh! Their unlimited amount of IMBA FRESH oyster, salmon belly, maguro (tuna), Saba (mackerel) is probably what worth more than half of the money 'invested' there. Saisaki have them too, just not as fresh, and they used mainly normal salmon but all I see in jogoya is salmon BELLY. SALMON BELLY, most expensive part in the whole effing fish :D
To note, Saisaki don't have fresh oysters, and it's such a let down :( But they do provide cheese-baked oyster, only ONE piece of oyster for ONE PERSON. Nvm la, I don't mind giving it to the next table really. Those fucked up oyster taste so damn fishy (hanyir?! @_@) as if the oysters were left dead for a week before served to us wtfish.
Actually there's a lot more to say but I'm too lazy to cont this post wadeheck. Ciaoz
